Understanding someone’s “Why” says a lot about their motivation. My “why” is that I want to be a part of a positive change in our country’s health. I’ve recently discovered Regenerative Agriculture, which, put simply, is an approach to growing food that starts with soil health. In my journey of learning about soil health, and how immensely it impacts all our lives, I’ve learned 2 very important things. 1 – How our food is currently produced is, largely, very unhealthy for us humans, in addition to the environment and other forms of life on earth. That includes food that is grown, raised and processed. I feel strongly that my friends, family and community ought to be aware of this. 2 – In a capitalist society, one of the largest levers to affect change is consumer demand. So if enough of us know what to ask for, what to buy and what not to buy, the market with respond with healthier options. So, my goal is to empower us by sharing with you, knowledge about:
1. Why our food needs to be better.
2. How our food can be better.
3. How we can affect change so that it is!
But the more we know, without being overwhelmed with information, the more power we have. We can use our dollars and our votes to move the needle. My hope is that this blog inspires us to move it in the “right” direction. So I’m here to spread the “soil health = human health” gospel, in what I hope will be manageable morsels, in the interest of our health, our planet and our future.
I hope to cover lots of topics and share lots of great products, ideas, people and, of course, food system knowledge or Food Ed. Since I know we all lead busy lives, I plan to cover topics in a format that is digestible to anyone. Each FOOD ED post will have sections called :
1. The What
2. The Why
3. Just the facts ma’am
4. Let’s go down the rabbit hole, shall we?
5. What you can do
You can skim the what, why and just the facts if you are in a rush and hop down to the “what you can do.” Or, if you want more information, you can continue on to the deep dive (rabbit hole) section. My method is to consider your differing time constraints and detail preferences – so I hope I effectively do that for you all. Hope to see you again soon!
